Well London got all the attention re Quad as Mod started around the West London/Soho clubs…. Not sure it would have been the same with Jimmy with a brogue east mids accent wearing a donkey jacket??

Re: Glastonbury 2017
Sold0, you wont find anything, because theyre as clueless as you and hairy are about the folk roots of blues. Even academics tread warily about it because of the demands by certain groups that its an entirely black thing, which it aint. It clearly incorporates structure and storylines from traditional british and american folk music. Just think about this - where did the early blues pioneers get their guitars and their harmonicas from? Here's a clue: they werent from Africa.

Re: Glastonbury 2017
Jay the singer is a Mod Sold. The music is definitely not Mod.
There is still quite a big Mod Scene in Nottingham and back in the day Sleaford which is nearby in Lincolnshire had a massive scene and some claim it started there.
He is still pissed off that London got all the attention and credit with films like Quadraphenia, so I guess the name is a nod to the old Mod Scene in Sleaford.

You'd be lying if you said you couldn't see a link between morris dancing and rap dancing, though.

You know I’m trying to find an interview in which Dre, Eazy E, Ren and Ice Cube are asked their musical influences and they come up with `white melodisation` and `canon of English, Scottish and Irish folk music that went over the US in the 16-19th century ` …. Can’t seem to find it at the mo… still looking…. Be back in 30 mins if I find anything…

I admit that I am not anywhere near as Intelligent as you and I say that in sincerity you are far better read than I.
I just know my ears without the brilliance of the black artiste things would be very different Elvis for a start would never have happened, well not as he was.
I have yet to see anyone come close to the brilliance of black artistes I will give one name Little Richard and yes he had white in him too but he sang like a black man.
Before Gospel and the spirit that black people put into the songs they were just melodies and poems sweet and meaningful but without actual life and energy and it was the life and energy that made people especially the young want to listen and more importantly dance.

I’m just trying to think if I have seen anywhere written that Muddy Waters main influences for playing the Guitar was Irish Folk Music that came over to the US in the 16th Century….. nope … can’t find it…

Oh and I don’t mind a McDonalds (about once a month)… and I like Katy Perry… especially her videos and when she wears West ham basques… sue me

Re: Glastonbury 2017
Hairy, youre clearly rather poorly educated given you regularly spout off on here about things you know little about. Do you know what black music without the influence of white melodisation sounds like? Clearly not. Do you know what a lot of the canon of English, Scottish and Irish folk music that went over the the US from 16-19th century sounds like? Clearly not.

Dont speak about things you know fuck all about. So in summary dont speak about anything.

hairy, I love 'black music', been a fan of Public Enemy for over twenty years but not one argument will make me want to listen/watch a ginger George Formby tribute act headlining a festival. no doubt he can write a tune but the minimalist, one man on a stage, cheapskate approach leaves me cold

Hairy, McDonalds is massively popular too.

Are you alright Sold, have you got a fever?

Yeh, I have known Jay the lead singer of the Mods for over 20 years.
He started out in his own as the S Mods, I still have the original album from 06 he gave me. Is better than the current stuff IMHO, much ruder and darker.. Mostly samples and his voice though, or a guitarist I know too he is mates with.
The other bloke only came along a few years ago which is when they really took off as he was more of a traditional musician.

Re: Glastonbury 2017
As a rock fan I'd rather see the likes of Metallica, Stones, Who, Robert Plant etc. headline than Ed Sheeran. That said, I thought he was very good. It's difficult for one man and a guitar to headline the Pyramid but his performance was enjoyable. I don't understand this idea that he has no talent. He may not be to everyone's taste, but he's good at what he does. Either way, I'm sure he takes solace from his 45,000,000 monthly Spotify listeners.

He was certainly better than Foo Fighters. A really poor set which included far too much talking and omitted some of their best tracks. Still I guess they have to play to the crowd.

Shaggy, the Ultimate Power Ballad tent and some brass act at Shangrila probably the most fun for me, which says a lot about the general quality of the music. Still it's not all about that.

As for Corbyn, it was a proper crush at the Pyramid, but that was as much to do with people trying to leave (whilst cunting him off) as it was to do with people who wanted to see him. I reckon most Glasto goers are Tory, or don't vote, regardless of whether they actually admit it. The most vocal signallers are truly tedious.

Was considering going to the Brexit panel where McDonnell spoke but decided against it. I did bet everyone I camped with that he would shoehorn a reference to Grenfell and neither he or Corbyn disappointed. Truly shameful stuff.

Next you will be telling us that Morris dancing was a precursor to break dancing and HIP HOP.
It was shit Gavros shit no soul no heart without Black singing styles or Gospel Blues etc music would be like Fish and Chips without salt Vinegar or sauce.

Gavros 3:18 Mon Jun 26
Re: Glastonbury 2017
all modern music is a combination of the two - largely black rhythm, largely white melody, and a combination of the two harmonically. Saying that all music is black is like saying that a mixed race kid is black even when he has a white parent. Its a load of bollocks.
